Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute (Engineering College) was founded in 1988. The college acquired Deemed University status in 2003 as Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute as per the orders of the University Grants Commission, New Delhi and the Union Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India, New Delhi. The college has been accredited by NAAC with A+ grade and also got the approval from AICTE - (All India Council for Technical Education) along with NBA (National Board of Association).

Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute - Hostel and Other Facilities :

The rooms have AC and Non AC facilities and the students are at liberty to opt according to their individual comfort and means. Three students can share a single room and the rooms are fully furnished with tables, chairs, cots, wardrobes, mosquito nets and an attached Bathroom/Toilet. There is no dearth of water supply in the hostel buildings and they are equipped with full time water and power supply. A full capacity generator is always kept handy in case of power shutdown in all the hostels.

Drinking water is RO Treated and filtered with cool, medium and hot water types. There are experienced wardens on each floor who care and cater to every single need of students and see to it that they are comfortable throughout their stay in the hostel.
Male and Female Security guards are also employed to keep a keen watch and provide round the clock attention on the hostel premises.
There is a modern type kitchen with two dining halls that serve North Indian and South Indian type dishes as per daily menu.
The dishes are cooked in a completely hygienic environment and care is taken to see that they are healthy and appetizing too.
The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled understanding the significance of technology on the world.
This makes it easy for students to avail internet facilities for their study as well as for their overall career development.
CCTV cameras are fitted all round the hostel buildings and strict discipline is being enforced.
